The Spice and Tea Exchange
Read more about Heather and her family history with The Spice and Tea Exchange.
We had the opportunity to speak with Heather Hulbert, owner of The Spice and Tea Exchange of Williamsburg. As a small business owner and mother we were pleased when she was able to fit our interview in her schedule. Heather acquired the store in October of 2015 from an older couple who decided to retire. She owned the store for almost four months before the officially holding a grand reopening in February of 2016.
Heather has a personal connection to The Spice and Tea Exchange franchise through her mother who is the COO of the parent company. Once she heard that the Williamsburg location was up for sale, she knew it was just the place she wanted to grow her business. One of her favorite parts about owning and operating a business in the Greater Williamsburg Partnership Area is the connection she gets to make within the business community. One of her neighbors, LOKAL, has bonded with her through their passion for healthy living. Both owners use her original spice blends as a staple in many of their recipes, both at home in-store.
Many times during our interview, Heather made reference to the individualized service that Williamsburg Economic
Development Authority gave her. Her business has also benefited from relationships formed through both the Chamber of Commerce and surrounding foot traffic. To learn more about The Spice and Tea Exchange go to their website or visit the store at 439 Prince George St, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
